Inspiration from a Pencil
What can we possibly learn from a pencil?
Once upon a time, a boy was watching his grandmother write a letter.
Curious, he asked, "Granny, what are you writing? Is it something interesting? Are you writing about me?"
The grandmother stopped writing. Turning to her grandson, she said, "Of course, I'm writing about you my child, but more important than the words, is the pencil I'm using. I hope you grow up implementing the lessons we can learn from this pencil."
Intrigued, the boy came running towards her granny and after having a close inspection of the pencil for a while, he inquired, "Lessons from this pencil? But it doesn't seem anything special, Granny. What can we learn from a pencil?"
His granny replied, "Dear, that depends on how you see things. This pencil has seven qualities, which if you manage to incorporate in life, will make you a wonderful person who is always at peace with himself and the situations around."
"Let me explain," she said and went on to list the seven qualities.
*Quality 1* "Just like this pencil, we all are capable of doing great things in life, but we must never forget that there's a hand backing us all the time, enabling us to move further. We call that hand God who is always there, working in the background, helping us to navigate life."
*Quality 2* "From time to time, we have to sharpen the tip of our pencil. It hurts the pencil a bit at first, but later it works more efficiently.
Similarly, tough times prepare us to face bigger challenges in life, which in turn plays an important role in our inner development and helps us to become a better human being."
*Quality 3* "A pencil gives us the chance to rectify our mistakes. We can always use an eraser to rectify our mistakes.
Making mistakes is not a bad thing, but more important is to rectify our mistakes and never ever repeat the same mistakes in life. Rather, learn from the mistakes and move forward."
*Quality 4* "It hardly matters how great a pencil looks on the outside, if the graphite inside doesn't write!
Likewise our outer appearance is not our real identity. Our real identity depends on our inner appearance, how we are from the inside as humans. *Inner beauty always reigns supreme!*"
*Quality 5* "A pencil writes and leaves a mark behind that is capable of inspiring millions of people and changing their lives!
Likewise, the choices we make in our life , leave some marks behind, reflecting our life journey. We leave our marks in the form of our thoughts and actions. They define who we truly are."
*Quality 6* "A pencil gets shorter and shorter with every use, and so does life! Why not make the most of it, while we still have time. Why not chase our true purpose in life, when we've got the choice."
"Finally, the *seventh quality* of a pencil would be - It writes till the end of its life. A pencil finishes one day but the work it leaves behind, stays on forever!"
"Can we be as useful and productive as a pencil till our last day?" Granny smiled and left the grandchild with a question to ponder over.
"This world is a place of wonder and also a place of learning moral lessons."
