Saamaja Vara Gamana – Sri Thyaagaraja – Raga : Hindolam
PALLAVI
Saamaja Vara Gamana Saadhu Hrut Saarasaabja Paala Kaalaateeta Vikhyaata
O Lord, your gait is majestic like that of an Elephant. You causes the hearts of devotees to blossom like the lotus. Your fame transcends time.
ANUPALLAVI
Saama Nigamaja Sudhaamaya Gaana Vichakshana Gunasheela Dayaalavaala Maam Paalaya
O expounder of the nectar-like music arising from Saama Veda. Oh Lord you have great qualities and compassionate. Kindly take care of Me.
CHARANAM
Veda Shiromaatruja Saptasvara Naadaachala Deepa Sveekruta Yaadavakula Murali Vaadana Vinoda Mohanakara Tyaagaraaja Vandaneeya
You are the zenith of the Vedas. You are the divine light in the mountain of music based on the seven notes. The one who elevated the Yadava race by taking birth as Krishna. You delighted in playing on the flute and fascinated the Gopis by your bewitching form and mellifluous music, the one who is worshipped by Tyagaraja.
Kindly hear the divine music sung by :
Sri Madurai Mani Iyer
Sri G.N. Balasubramaniam
Sri Mandolin U. Srinivas

I am surprised by the LANGUAGE used by Sri Tyagaraja in this Kriti.
Yes he has used SANSKRIT in this composition unlike his usual TELUGU Kritis.
Whatever may be the language this song transcends time.

Sir, I am a big Zero in Music. But I enjoyed this song very much. The Lyrics and the meaning helped in the process. I can now imagine the joy of those who have learnt the Classical Music in a Traditional way.
