Dear Children
57. "escape "
You would have observed that sometimes certain things happen in our lives, without any preplan, expectation, or effort made by us. Those things may be favourable or unfavourable to us but they do happen. We name them “good luck| or bad luck| according to their influence on our lives. One such a good thing happened in Arjuna’s life which forms the story below.
Pandavas were housed in a new house built for them in the forest. Dhuryodhana, as if helping his cousins, had designed this building in such a way that it was highly combustible, as it was built with materials like wax, dry wood and easily inflammable equipment.
A particular day was also fixed to burn the house at dead of night when the Pandavas were sleeping inside so that all will die in a single night and be of no more problems to Dhuryodhanan and his brothers.
It so happened that a few people engaged by Dhuryodhana to burn the house were discussing their plans when Arjuna happened to pass by which they did not notice. The was house was to be put to fire the next night. Arjuna rushed to break the news to others and they immediately began to plan their escape route. But how to do in within a day! Bheema, the enormous strong man of the Pandavas took charge to build a tunnel to get away from the house without the knowledge of Duryodhan. He found a few reliable friends to dig a tunnel from the house to the river side away. He began digging the tunnel fast with their assistance also. He refused food and water until he finished the work. He just thought of Krishna, their well wisher and true friend and began the job. “
“Krishna, why have you not touched the food in the plate before you and not eating for so long?” asked Rukmani at Dwarka, in Krishna’s palace. She was worried thinking Krishna was not well.
“My friend Bheema is engaged in a very hard urgent work and until he finished it successfully neither he nor I can eat”
Bheema successfully dug the tunnel for all of them to escape the next night immediately after the house was set to fire. Pandavas managed to plant six charred remains to mislead Dhuryodhan that they were all burnt to death to please him, but escaped to the river bed, took a boat and crossed the land.
At Hasthinapur, Duryodhan was celebrating and rejoicing to know the death of the Pandavas all at a time and appreciated the plans of his men who executed the scheme so successfully. Pandavas were in fact, enjoying their meals for the first time after their escape from the wax house under a tree in a forest on the other side of the river without anyone identifying them.
“Bheema, your might only has saved all of us, said Kunthi, their mother while they were partaking food, while Bheema thanked in his heart Krishna, for the extra strength he had while dugging the tunnel so successfully” Tear drops fell from his eyes out of gratitude. He replied Kunthi “Mother, it was not me, but Krishna who saved our lives”
Dear children, remember, Krishna is the god of protection
