Dear Children
85 ''Dream love''
It is common to find in our legends that Lord Siva very easily grants any boon to whoever penances sincerely seeking for fulfilment of any wish, whatever be it. This benign nature of Lord Siva was exploited by many Rakshasas, asuras and demons. If they undergo severe penance Siva would appear before them and grant the wish immediately. It is a fact that amidst those devotees of Lord Siva who pleased him with their penances and deep meditation, most were only Asuras and Rakshasas and demons. The moment they obtained the boon they wished, they began mis using the power to the detriment of sadhus, rishis, devas and others. Later all the affected would go to Narayana for saving them from the cruelties of the Asuras and Narayanan would take avathars (incarnations) to suit the need and destroy the Asuras and others.
There was a demon by name Banasura. He worshiped Lord Siva and pleased the god with his sincere and severe penance. He obtained the boon according to which no one in the three worlds could win him. If any enemey entered his kingdom to oppose and win him, then Lord Siva would personally appear for his defence and protect from such attack. This he proclaimed to the three worlds. Who will knowingly come and attack him particularly if they are told that the moment they enter the kingdom of Banasura, to oppose him, Lord Siva would be ready to attack them. Can anyone fight with Lord Siva? So this made Banasura do whatever he liked and torture eveyone for his gain.
The funny part of it is, over a period of time, Banasura forgot his skills in fighting because nobody ventured to quarrel or fight with him because of his invincible power and support of Lord Siva. He tried to make someone fight with him but no one came forward out of fear remaining subdued, meek and put with all the difficulties caused by him helplessly. As a result, Banasura had to lead a life of no interest.
Banasura had a beautiful daughter. Her name was Usha. The girl was clever and religious minded. Her best friend was Chithralekha,, the daughter of Banasura's chief Minister. The girls were of same age and inseparable as they liked each other very much. Life was going on like this for a pretty long time.
Strangely, one night Usha had a dream. A beautiful prince, of magnetic charm and handsome features appeared in her dream and both Usha and the prince became so enamoured with love for each other, Usha entwined with the prince and they sang together, played and swam in the pond, talked for hours and exchanged their feelings and within a short time they became inseparable. Usha and the prince declared they cannot live without each other!! All these happened in a dream!
Dear children, you would have experienced, dreams dont last long. The longest dream is only a few seconds. But the effect of some dreams will be haunting and will be remembered for many years. Dreams may come true also, but not all. For some peculiar people they will always dream of being beaten by someone, pushed from a hill, some dog chasing and biting, some always dreaming of some thief entering their house and robbing them. Dreams occur because of disturbed mind. Some people say they dont get dream at all. No it cannot be. Perhaps they dont remember it as it would be treated insignificant.
Also it is experienced by many that the dreams are cut off at a very crucial state. It was so for Usha, When they were embracing and exchanging sweet words of love, she woke up from the bed and looked everywhere. She was in her bedroom with no one! She was so much disappointed to realise all that she experienced occurred in the dream only.
she asked herself "" is my pure love for the prince only a dream? No it is not so. My love for the prince is pure and true. But during the happy moments with him neither did she ask about his whereabouts or his name or identity, nor did he ask about her. Probably in their pleasant time together, they had no moment to waste on these information exchange.
Somewhere, there has to be the prince, who appeared in her dream. Otherwise, why should he come and loved her at first sight.? She never accepted that her man in the dream was mere imagination. But I have never seen him or know him? From that night, Usha was always thinking of the dream prince only. She was slowly becoming mad is the right word to express her state.
She used to repeatedly ask “Where are you my love Why dont you come again to me ?'' She will imagine she was with him and laugh and talk to him by herself. She lost her routine habits and never showed interest in decorating her or taking food at proper time. Her friends teased her initially and after some time they pitied her. ' I want him, I must have him'' was what she was telling everyone. She never talked about any other think but only about her dream prince. Her friends were helpless to make her happy.
"Can you tell me atleast who was he, and from where he came, what was his name, or that of his parents or the kingdom he belonged to ?'' to all these questions put by her friends her only reply was ''I dont know''
''Have you ever met him before, or has anyone shown any picture of him atleast''
''hmm. No'' was the sorrowful answer from Usha.
Usha cursed herself. "'What a damn fool was I, that I never cared to ask his name, and whereabouts'' It made her cry!
“Better you go back to sleep and catch him again in the next dream..'' some of her friends teased her with a faint hope he may come again her in her dream.'' She was also hoping he would come again like the picture again appearing on the scree after interval in any theatre .
Chithralekha, her best friend and the intelligent girl thought about this for many days and nights and tried to find a way to trace the missing dream prince of Usha. Chithralekha knew magics and she was good in some supernatural feats also. She believed that something had really happened and not just a dream because Usha would not react like this. How Usha could be so certain about the features of the prince if she saw him only for a few seconds in a dream. So Chithralekha decided to dedicate her time and talents to help her best friend Usha.
I want you to know that Chithralekha was also a very good artist. She could draw anybody's face and features within seconds of seeing them. That is why she got her name "Chitra lekha"" She daily spent hours in her room, drawing the pictures of all the kings and princes of different kingdoms whom she had seen, and heard about from others about their faces and features. She completed in a few days the pictures of almost all the kings and princes and showed them to Usha to identify if any one was her dream princ or resembled him.
“He has some of the features, but my prince was much younger'' said Usha on seeing Krishna's face. This gave some hope to Chitralekha. She gathered information about Krishna's family and sons. When she drew the picture of Pradhyumna, she never knew she was going to upset Usha. He is exactly like my prince but this is not my love"'
Chithra lekha then drew the picture of Aniruth, the son of Pradhyumna, on seeing which Usha became a statue. Her heart beat stopped. ”This is my prince. He is the one, who met me and I loved this man only. Same eyes, same nose, same lips and same hair style, the same ear rings, and he is the one no doubt who came to me and we both loved each other, shouted Usha and kissed the picture of Anirudh. She refused to return the picture and embraced it. He is my husband.I must reach him immediately. Please take me with you to him'' begged Usha. If I dont find him or get him I am sure to die immediately''.
Chithralekha made discrete enqiuiries about where Dwarka was and how to reach it. Dwarka was surrounded by seas and Krishna fortified his palace beyond the reach of demons, asuras and rakshasas who were numerous always wanting to end him. Banasura cannot think of reaching Krishna's family in the palace in Dwarka. Sudharsan Chakra was ever in vigil . All these did not enter into the deaf ears of Usha. She had only one word. '' I must go to him or go and bring him here ''
Chithralekha finally came to the conclusion that it was not possible for Usha to reach Dwarka. But some attempt should be made to bring Anirudh to her. How?''
I told you already that Chithralekha knew some supernatural feats. She could fly. So she used her talent in flying for the sake of her best friend Usha. She was therefore flying towards Dwarka. Luckilyh she met sage Naradha in the sky. She fell at his feet and received his blessings.
Sage Naradha listened to her story, and when she begged for his help to save her friend Usha, he said '' Let lme teach you a manthra, When you chant it, you will be able to fly into Dwarka and enter into the palace of Krishna, without seen by anyone. You will become invisible and you will be taken straight to where Anirudh is now . I cannot be responsible for what happens after that !!
"Krishna, all these are your own plans is what I believe strongly ''' Naradha was telling to himself and he imediately worshipped and prayed to Krishna.
Chithralekha reached the Dwarka fortress and entered the palace of Krishna and no one seemed to know her presence. She looked for Anirudh and found him in a Dance hall inside the palace. He looked worried and wearing a desolate look. He in fact wanted to have a change of mind and decided to spend some time in the dance program there. Though he was sitting in the front seat, his mind was somewhere with a beautiful princess whom he met, loved, spent unforgettable time with her, and wanted to marry her. He lost his peace of mind after the dream he hadexperienced a few days ago. He came to the drama and dance hall to see if anyone of the artists looked like his dream princess. He was not by himself of late and lost interest in everything and listless.
The moment Chithralekha saw him she recognised him because she had drawn him. Besides she found him completely fitting the description of him as told by Usha to her. She went near him and sat next to him "' Prince Anirudh, I am from princess Usha, who sent me to you"''
Anirudh was surprised to see Chithralekha and was astonished when she told him about Usha and her dream His face became bright and he was happily smiling after so many days since the dream one night shook him. Anirudh asked her to repeat all about Usha. He admitted that he was in love with her from the moment she appeared in his dream. ''Chithra, I am mad and lost my sleep ever since I met Usha in my dream. I dont eat drink or sleep and do not mingle with anyone or shown interest in any other matter. Usha had stolen my heart. I must meet her immediately and be with her again'' begged Aniruth to Chithralekha. Where is she, and how to go to her place? I have been foolish all the time without having any information about her and her place of living. Please do help me'' Anirudh was so much frantic.
It is proper to stop this story here and make you eagerly await what happened afterwards, like the hero of this story Anirudh waiting to see his dream princess and wife Usha.!! You may wait for a day, to know further, because by then Chithra and Anirudh might be able to escape the well guarded Dwarka fort and palace.
