76 ‘’RE UNION ‘’
Is it I proper to say that some characaters in the story of Ramayana also form a part of Mahabharath story? Many do not agree that it is so for the simple reason that both Ramayana and Mahabharath belonged to different ages, say aeons which we call yugas.
Ramayana dealt with persons who lived many thousand years before in the Thretha Yug, whereas Mahabharath happened in the next Dhwapar Yug. And so there is no way the person who lived during the Ramayana days would have lived in the Mahabharath period. Well, this is quite reasonable to assume and yet this logic will not hold water in the case of Chiranjeevis (immortals ).
You have read about Aswaththama a Chiranjeevi already. An immortal person does not have any particular limitation as to which age he belonged to! Is n’t it? Yuga after Yuga, may change but he remains unchanged. Hanuman being a Chiranjeevi also lived in Dhwapar Yug.
Anjaneya’s breath was Rama. His mind was Rama, His word was Rama. His deed was Rama. He lived for Rama in Thretha yug and at the end of the Yug Rama disappeared as His avathar ( mission and purpose) was over. But the Chiranjeevi Hanuman, also known as Anjaneya as he was son of Anjana, remained in the world. His mind and heart was still Rama and he kept meditating upon Rama Nama day and night and never associated with anything or anyone in the next Dwapara Yuga. Every thing and everyone was strange in the next Yug except the thought of Ram. So he selected for him a secluded place to live in meditation of Rama, chanting all the time ‘Jai Ram Sita Ram.’’
Naradha, the saint, is well known for all the time moving about (Trilok Sanchari), gathering information and meeting people and interacting with Narayana.
Saint Naradha during one of his visits came across Anjaneya in a remote cave in a hill range. When he heard the chanting of Raam Naam he was interested to know who in that remote place was chanting and meditating on Ram.
When Naradha followed the sound and located Anjaneya sitting in a corner of a cave like a stone and meditating on Ram he was very happy. He knew Anjaneya and waited for Hanuman to open his eyes and joined in chaning Ram Nam.
Anjaneya was surprised to hear some other voice joining him in his favourite chanting and opened his eyes to see Naradha before him.
‘’Oh Saint Naradha, what brought you to me here?’’
‘’Anjaneya, I passed through this region and hearing your chanting of Ramnam stopped to see you . How are you and how long will you still be chanting Rama’s name and meditating on him.?"
‘’What a funny question you are putting to me Naradha, Can anyone exist without breathing? Rama is my life force and his name is my breathing. Until I stop breathing nothing can stop my chanting his name.?"
When Naradha laughed Anjaneya asked him “why do you laugh. Naradha?’’
‘’Anjaneya, I was wondering how long will you be chasing the shadow when the live object is before you but unknown to you’? When I thought about this, it made me laugh.’’
‘’Naradha, what you talk is not understood by me..’’
‘’You can understand anything only when you try to understand, is n’t it, Anjaneya?’’
‘’Naradha explain me what you meant by referring to live object and its shadow? Are you referring to my chanting and meditating on Rama?. Is Rama just a shadow for you?’’
"In a way, yes. Lord Narayana took the avathar of Ram and it is already over. Narayana has taken another avathar after he was Ram in the prvious Yug. We are now in Dhwarpar Yug "
"What are you talking Sage Naradha? Is my Ram now existing but in different Avathar? If so, what is it and where is he?
"Ram is now named Krishna. He is at Dwarka. When I recently met him and talked we also discussed about you." Anjaneya's joy knew no bounds on hearing this. He jumped and exclaimed:
"Is my Ram still there and remembers me? Where is he? I must immediately meet him. Come and show me at once.’’
‘’Anjaneya you cannot see him like this. You take the form of a Brahmin and go to Dwarka on the next Ramanavami day(birth day of Rama). On that day you perform an annadhan (mass feeding) I will meet you there and we may then meet Ram. Let me go now.’’ Naradha left Anjaneya.
The eagerly awaited Ram Navami day found Anjaneya, the old brahmin at Dwarka. Dwarka was wearing a festive look. Everywhere peope were listening to discourses, street dramas, many were availing the free distribution of buttermilk, coconut water, sweetmeats and many other eatables. There was an old Brahmin performing annadhan in a big spacious covered place in front of a Ram temple, feeding a large number of people. The old Brahmin himself was serving everyone with each and every item of food with care and devotion. The delicious food served by the old Brahmin was enjoyed by many seated in hundreds of rows facing each other.
The old man served food himself to thousands of people seated in rows bending all the time to serve properly in the leaf placed before them. He was chanting all the time the name of Ram.
While serving in a row, Anjaneya, the old Brahmin suddenly threw away the ladle in his hand and fell down in front of a leaf he was serving. He prostrated before the old man seated before the leaf he was serving. His heart was about to stop in split second. Why? The feet of the person squatted before him in the row whose leaf he was serving caused this. While serving food casually he looked at those feet. What a surprise? He knew those feet which he constantly worshipped. Those feet were the source of his strength. Those feet were what he was retaining all along in his mind and heart. He caught hold of the feet of the old man seated in the row, and placed his head on them..
''Why did you do this to me my lord? What a sinner am I? Prabhu why did you test me like this? How many years later I am having the dharshan of these feet, which I always worshipped, My Ramchanderji, why did you opt to sit in a row and receive the food I served.''
Krishna, the' old man' got up and lifted Anjaneya. Naradha, the other old man seated next to Krishna, also got up.
Krishna embraced Anjaneya. It was a re union of Rama and Anjaneya after a yug is n’t it? Krishna said ''on this Rama navami day, when everyone is celebrating Rama’s birthday, I wanted to eat fro'm your hands personally. So Naradha arranged for our meeting on this occasion. I was very eager to see you Anjaneya''
‘’Prabhu, I have a grievance!’’
What is it Hanuman?’’
"I must immediately go with you to Dwarka to see my mother Seetha with you together, as I have suffered seeing you alone without her in the past.''
‘Krishna laughed. Let us all go back to Dwarka then “” said Krishna.
Anjaneya saw Seetha in Rukmini and Rama in Krishna and Lakshmana in Balram. He had eyeful dharshan of them all and was extremely happy. He shed tears of happiness and could not find words to utter like me, who could not write further as I have no words to express the joy of Hanuman.
