Dear children
97 ''WHOM HE PRAYED ''
I am happy to share with you my thoughts. Sometime ago I came across a beautiful but rare picture of Krishna. I wonder how many of you have seen this ? ( SORRY, I AM NOT ABLE TO COPY THE PICTURE HERE ??!!)
What is special about this picture, according to me, is we all meditate on Krishna, and chant his holy names count the beads and concentrate. Who is there for Krishna to meditate upon? Does he have to sit and meditate? What he wishes to have by meditating? We meditate to have peace of mind, some relief from some thing etc., what such a thing exists for Krishna to seek relief from? The picture kindled in me a desire to write a story of Krishna
You all know by now, that the Sage Naradha and Krishna were closely moving and friendly besides Naradha being an ardent devotee of Krishna. He cannot be without seeing Krishna from time to time. He visited Dwarka to chat with Krishna as Krishna too found in the sage a good company.
Once the sage Naradha visited Krishna's palace in Dwarka. He found a new guard standing in front of the palace gate. Naradha never saw him before. When Naradha tried to enter the palace the guard stopped the sage. He did not know the sage and had not met him before.
“Swami, may I know who you are?”
“Dont you know me and have you not seen me here before?
“Swamiji, I am sorry I dont know who you are”
“People call me Sage Naradha”
“Thank you swamiji, but you cannot enter in ”.
'' Being a new person, you dont know me. I understand. But no one stops me from entering in. I am very close to Krishna and can meet him any time i like”
“Swamiji, I am sorry, I dont know anything what you say, I received order from my Master not to allow him any one inside. Please allow me to perform my duty''.
“I understand your position. Will you go in and tell your Master, sage Naradha has come to see him. He will come and take me inside with him.”
“Swami I know your name and I have heard it before though I have not seen you. I have great respect for you swamiji. I follow what you said. but my Master had given me specific instruction that he is doing his prayers now and meditating and I am not to allow anyone whoever he may be until he is free and tells me so. I am sure he will come himself to give me further instruction when his prayer or meditation is over. Then you may go in''
The sage was surprised. He could not believe what he heard from the gate keeper. ”Is Krishna praying and meditating? upon whom? for what? The three worlds are praying him and meditating upon him, and when it is being so, who is there for Krishna to pray and why this meditation by him. He got angry now at the gatekeeper.
'''My dear young man, you may be wrong. You dont know what an offence you have committed for your Master insuting him with what you told me. If he comes to know this, it would do no good for you. Do you know your Master is a god. When every one worships him you have made a big mistake saying he is worshipping some one. It is totally a wrong statement .”
“Swamiji I apologise to you. I am an ordinary servant and illiterate. I only told you what my Master instructed me. I have not added or omitted anything he instructed me clearly.I made no mistake I believe ”.
Sage Naradha did not pursue his conversation with the ignorant gate keeper. He was held at the gate and he stood there patiently. Time was running out. After some time, Krishna came out himself.
“Welcome sage Naradha. Hope you have not been waiting for long ''.
“It does not matter. If I am asked to wait I will have to wait as per instruction. So what ?'' Naradha was curt in replying
''Muni sreshta, why your face is not radiant as it always used to be. May be some thought inside is disturbing you a lot''
“You are right Krishna. i am not as usual because what happened today here is also not as usual. Your gate keeper prevented me from getting inside. ”
"Yes i understand "
“Krishna, I am keen to know whether your gate keeper made any mistake. Were you praying and meditating till now and instructed him not to allow anyone inside during that time. I find it quite strange ?”.
“'Muni Pungavaa, what you heard is true !”
“Krishna, I cannot believe my ears. Are you telling me that you were meditating upon something and praying ?”.
“Naradha you heard it right”
“Of all the people, is it you who were praying and whom were you praying to !”
“What is your doubt in this Naradha. Come on let us go inside. You can see for yourself.''
Krishna led Naradha inside his palace and asked him to look at whom he was praying to !!”
What did Naradha see there?
There appeared numerous small images of many sages, rishis, gopis, gopas, pandavas, cows, so many devotees and bhakthas.
“Krishna are these whom you are worshipping and praying to ”
“Yes Naradha. All these love me and worship me in all my avathars and I worship their pure love(prema) and poorna bakthi for me in reciprocation. Whom else are there for me to pray or who else can I worship?
The sage Naradha was astonished, and admired the love of Krishna for his devotees and affection for his bhakthas and all living beings under his protection. The moment the Sage Naradha understood Krishna's mind he felt ashamed of himself for his hasty conclusion and regretted having found fault with the simple minded gate keeper.
