Dear Children
86 ''The war that ended with a wedding''
Yesterday, in the previous story, we left both Anirudhdha and Chithralekha to break their heads to find a way to escape from Dwarka fort,
“Chithra, I can't believe myself. Is it true that the beautiful girl I saw in my dream is alive and that her name is Usha. More than that I am extremely happy that she loves me as I do wish to marry her. What a great surprise for me to know more about her after so many days of my yearning since the night I dreamt of her. I was feeling frustrated that my beautiful girl was only a dream figure all these days. I was sleepless and regretting it was a mere dream. You visited me like a boon. Come on, let us leave now itself somehow. You said you know some magics and can devise a plan for our escape through your supernatural feats '' Anirudhdha's non stop talking revealed his sincere feelings to Chithralekha.
Usha was continuing to be sleepless, starving, lonely, semi-mad, always talking to herself as her mind was fixed on the dream prince, her love and would be husband. Her condition worsened after Chithralekha left her in search of the prince. So Usha was melting like a wax placed near fire. How could Usha reach Dwarka, where he thoughts were centred? She was worried if Chithralekha was caught in any problem. She blamed herself for Chithralekha's predicament.
One day when Usha was thus bogged down in her worries, to her astonishment Chithralekha stood before her with Anirudh. She could not believe herself. She was afraid if it was again a dream. She made sure to open her eyes and look around to identify her surroundings. Yes, she was very much in her room and there stood before her, Chithraleka with her lover. She did not want to miss him again and wished to marry him at once. Will her father, the demon Banasuran agree to this? Never.
The clever girl Chithralekha observed the fear of Usha. She immediately ordered for garlands to be brought " Bring the flowers and garland quickly let us perform the Gandharva Vivaha of this beautiful couple''. Gandharva vivaha is an ancient cuastom in which the bride and bridegroom decided their wedding without waiting for the consent of the parents or others and this was recognised as one of the type of weddings. It is like the love marriage of modern times.
Within minutes garlands were brought, and in presence of Chithraleka and other friends, Usha exchanged garlands with Anirudh and they both became husband and wife!!
"You my beautiful dream girl, were you waiting for marrying me?'' asked Anirudh, to which he received the prompt reply ''yes, my loving dream boy, the moment I saw you first I lost myself and became your wife'' and they both embraced themselves. They both lived happily in her quarters. News slowly leaked and the demon king Banasura, was furious to learn that a stranger is living in his daughter's quarters without his knowledge! He could never digest this shock and enhanced his anger and he sent his soldiers to catch the man and bring to him.
Anirudhdha was a very brave soldier well trained in martial arts and was like his grand father Krishna in battles and wars. So when the soldiers of Banasura came to attack him he very easily killed them all. Banasuran himself came to catch him and fought vigorously with Anirudh. Finally, he was injured badly and immobilised by Anirudh. Banasura was no mean demon. He was talented and can perform mayaajaal. He created serpents and tied Anirudhdha with numerous snakes tightly making him in turn immobile.
It was at that time Sage Naradha happened to visit Dwarka. He knows when to visit and whom to visit, is n't it? When he visited Dwarka palace of Krishna, everyone seemed to be running around here and there in search of Anirudhdha who suddenly disappeared without any notice.
Naradha told them about his meeting with Chithralekha and her mission to visit Anirudhdha and the he she sought from him. Krishna joined Pradhyumna in proceeding to wage a war with Banasura and bring back the kidnapped Anirudhdha. A large force went with them for the war. When all of them reached the kingdom of Banasura, the demon appealed to Lord Siva to come to his rescue. Having granted the boon, Lord Siva had to defend him and attack his enemies whoever they were.
This war therefore turned to be a battle between Krishna and Siva. The entire army and forces of Banasura was destroyed by Krishna. Krishna was prepared and fully aware of Lord Siva's involvement in the battle. He therefore decided to send an arrow which turned into a garland and fell around his neck. Krishna knew to fight with the god of destruction is impossible. So he attached to the garland some powerful flower essence which when smelled would make one feel very sleepy. The garland's fragrance made Lord Siva drowsy and he dropped his invincible trident and made him half sleepy. Krishna knew Banasura could not be killed with any metal weapon and so released his Sudharshan Chakra and cut the hundreds of hands of Banasura. The demon was compoetely weakened. He could not be killed or won in the battle because of Lord Siva's boon.
Meantime Lord Siva was freed from the stupor and he realised who was before him. He held Krishna's hands. Lord Siva understood the mission of Krishna. ''Because of my granting the boon to Banasura, I have to stop you and fight with you'' he said.
''My lord, I know you honour your word I did not go against your boon. I will not attempt to kill him because of that. I only reduced his strength by cutting his hundreds of arms.''
“Yes Krishna, Banasura benefited by my granting him the boon but began misusing it and tormented everyone, and also made me bound to fight with you. He has now realised his folly and is reformed. Let us forgive him. He has realised the loss he sustained by over doing his role and seeks our blessings also. He has lost his forces, and his own strength and his only daughter will also now leave him. He is no longer the old arrogant Banasura'
''My lord I agree with you, He had already received your blessings and now will receive my blessings also''
Anirudhdha was tied down by powerful snakes head to foot and he was in a stupor. The moment Krishna arrived with Pradhyuman and his Garudan the snakes began leaving Anirudhdha as Garudan had sigted them with his sharp eyes. Snakes and egles dont get along is well known to you is n't it? They escaped for safety on seeing Garudan. A few moments later, Anirudhdha got relieved from the stupor and found before him his loving grand father, Krishna and loving father Pradhyumna. He was extremely happy.
The reformed Banasura in the meantime found out who Anirudhdha was. An Asura like him having a close link and relationship with Krishna's family made him extremely delighted. As he was no more a bad demon, he is no more an enemy of Krishna .
He was extremely glad that his daughter had become a close relative of Krishna family and he realised there could be no better reward in life for him as the father of Usha. Banasura prostrated before Krishna and received his blessings. Anybody seing him now will not find the old arrogant and proud demon king Banasura. He was a lovable king. He celebrated the wedding of his daughter Usha with Anirudhdha in a grand manner in the presence of Krishna. The young couple were blessed by both Lord Siva and Krishna.
Krishna returned with all of them to Dwarka. There was a grand reception waiting for him organised by sage Naradha who played an important role from the beginning with the blessing of Krishna the master planner of all these schematically.
