Dear Children
68 '' The Peace Mission''
It was a hot day with dry winds spreading the heat of the sun. Even Sun god seemed to be unhappy and angry like the silent people seated in the Court hall in the palace of King Dhuryodhan. The restlessness and unhappiness of many elders who sat in the Court was quite evident from their desolate empty look reflecting their minds .
Dhridharashtra addressed his pet son ‘’Dhuryodhan, I appreciate the truth in what Krishna just told us. It appeals to me as quite reasonable. The Pandvas are entitled to equal share in the kingdom."
Dhuryodhana was at once, very angry with his father and countered " You views are uncalled for. It is you who is solely responsible for all our problems. If you had been strict with Pandavas from the beginning, there would not have arisen a crisis like this. This is all due to your undue partiality and special affection for Pandavas’’
Krishna interrupted calmly and quietly telling '' Dhuryodhan, let me once again advise you. Your cousins are good people, and they will be of great help to you if you are all united. If you chose to wage a war with them, the result would be disastrous for you. You may think calmly and permit them to enjoy their legitimate right of an equal share in the kingdom.’’
Dhuryodhan laughed hysterically and stoked his moustache with a pride and replied
‘’Krishna, you are repeating like a parrot, what you already said without anybody caring to listen. You are not only wasting your time, but wasting our time also’’
Krishna looked at all others in the Court hall. When his eyes met the evil Sakuni’s he smiled. But Sakuni perhaps misunderstood Krishna’s looking at him as if he was seeking desperately for support from some one. He spoke to Krishna.
‘’The Pandavas chose you as their Counselor Arbitrator and the right messenger to plead for him, but you have forgotten your experience and exposure, Krishna. Do you think you are a diplomat and clever messenger? Remember you were all the time looking after only the cows, calves and cattle and milching. Your exposure being only this, no doubt you are the only suitable fit person for Pandavas to represent them, they being nomads with no roof over them.''
Gandhari, the queen mother of the Kaurava princes, who was in the hall and heard Sakuni talking ill of Krishna could not toerate Krihna being insulted . She suddenly intervened and ordered Sakuni ‘’Stop it Sakuni, You are exceeding your limit. Your irresponsible talk will bring destruction to all of us’’
Dritharashtra followed his wife’s admonishing Sakuni by addressing Krishna " The situation is going out of control, Krishna. I am helpless and can do nothing as Dhuryodhan, my son does not heed to my advices . Not only is he refusing to give the five villages, but even the five houses, you demanded on Pandavas’behalf, ’’
Krishna listened all the speeches made so far by everyone calmly and ultimately warned ‘’Dhuryodhan, don’t dream that if at all there is going to be a war between you all and the Pandavas, the result would be favourable to you. I am giving you the last chance to avoid it. Think carefully before you give me your final answer. Let saner counsel prevail ’’
Dhuryodhan was at the height of anger and pride. He replied ‘’Krishna , your peace mission is a joke. You may go back to tell your friends the Pandavas that they will not be given even a sharp needle-edge size of land from us.’’
‘’Dhuryodhana, watch your words, It would be a good opportunity for you to listen to what Krishna said’’ advised Bheeshma, the grand old sire in the Court."
Karna the best friend of Dhuryodhan, never liked Bheeshma. He was irritated by what Bheeshma voiced. So he spontaneously retorted
‘’Grand pa, you are once again proving that you are incorrigible. You live under our care but will never cease to praise the Pandavas.
Do you think anyone will care for what you say?’’
"Karna, you shut up. You are unfit to interfere in our matters’’ shouted back Bheeshma.
Krishna got up and told ‘’ Dhuryodhan, you are lucky to be alive now after what you talked about me, because I have arrived here on a peace mission.. Well, let us all meet in the battle field’’
Dhritharashtra realized the peace mission failed to his utter disappointment. The blind king slowly got up and managed to reach Krishna and caught hold of his hands. "Krishna, I am a sinner whose misfortune is that I cannot even be able to see you. Forgive us’’
"Dhritharashtra, you will be able to see me now, said Krishna and granted him the special vision for his blind eyes and appeared in his macro form (VISWA ROOPAM) before him “
Dhritharashtra was thrilled and could not bear the sight of the unlimited universal form of Krishna. He folded his hands and shed tears of devotion saying "Krishna, my life’s purpose is now fulfilled. I have no second thought that the time has come for my Kaurava clan to end and my children have invited their own destruction by opting for a war. It is their own fate’’
I don’t wish restoration of sight Krishna. Please make me the blind man again as I don’t want to be a witness to their destruction’’
Dhrithashtran was once again the blind lonely king when Krishna was on his way to meet the Pandavas.
Dear Children, do you think Krishna failed in his Peace Mission, No.... He achieved what he planned and expected !"
