Dear Children,
The story before this told you how sage Naradha devised a plan to teach a lesson to Sathyabhama, but prior to that another incident too happened in which Naradha played his role. Naradha the learned sage, always corrected defects in people in his own way and in the end made them enter the right path..
Once when he visited Dwarka, he had with him, the very sweet smelling Parijatham flower brought by him from Indra's palace. He presented it to Krishna.
"Why have you brought this for me Naradha? asked Krishna, with a questioning smile?"
"You may give this to one of your wives whom you like most”
Krishna knew that Naradha has come to him with some idea in his mind, and knowing Naradha well, looked at him meaningfully accepted it. Naradha was Krishna's favourite bhaktha.
Now starts the dilemma. To whom can Krishna gift the flower, that too when he was at Rukmini’s palace?
Rukmini just entered the hall where Krishna and Naradha were talking, paid respects to Naradha and Krishna tand moved in. Krishna followed her with the flower. Rukmini liked the Parijatham flower very much and was very happy when he gave it to her. Krishna not only decided to give it to her but he himself fixed it on her head when he went in
After some time Naradha took leave of Krishna and left. He later visited Sathyabhama’s place before returning back
Sathyabhama received him as usual and bowed to him.
“Bhama, did you see the special Parijatham flower I brought?”
“No Guruji, I am not aware of any flower you brought ”
“Is it? I am sorry. I thought Krishna would have given it you, the Parijatham flower I brought as you would like more beautiful wearing it. I was under the impression he would have preferred to give it to you. May be, he thought and decided otherwise and given it to Rukmani because he was at her place when I brought it. Don’t worry, next time when I visit you I shall certainly bring one for you too”
The purpose of Naradha’s visit was over. He achieved what he wanted because Krishna by then was having a tough time in pacifying Bhama promising her that he will instead of flowers, even bring a sapling from Heaven and plant the Parijatham tree in her palace garden.
You are aware, Krishna along with Bhama, at the request of the Devas, waged a war with Narakasuran, killed him, and recovered for the Devas, their belongings forcibly taken by the demon. Indra was pleased with Krishna for having saved Devas from the torture of Narakasura. Indra at that time asked “Krishna, we are all grateful to you for your help. We would like to present you something, what would please you?”
“If you feel so, you may you just give me a sapling of the Parijatham tree in the Deva lok?”
“I shall arrange for it” said Indra. But the tree was at his queen Sasi’s palace.
She refused to part with any branch or sapling of the tree. Indra was not happy because he could not fulfill his promise to Krishna.
We find it difficult in our lives, to do something we wished, though it appeared initially very simple and an easy thing to do. Indra was in such a predicament and disappointing sitution.
When Indra did not keep up his word, and failed to do what he promised, Krishna became angry with the lord of Devas. Indra tried to justify his action, and as a result, there ensued a fight between Krishna and Indra. The Devas supported their lord Indra in the fight with Krishna. Krishna won the battle. The defeated Indra brought a sapling of the Parijatha tree and offered with his prayers to Krishna.
Sathyabhama was extremely happy with the parijatha sapling brought by Krishna. She was keenly watching the growth of the Parijatha tree planted in her garden. It grew day by day, into a very tall tree soon and most of the branches were leaning and turning towards the adjacent backyard of Rukmani’s palace.
When the tree started flowering no wonder most of the flowers fell down in the back yard of Rukmani’s palace. The tree only was at Sathyayabhama’s palace garden with a very few branches bearing only a very few flowers in them.
Sathyabhama was intelligent enough to understand why Krishna gifted the parijatham flower brought by the sage Naradha to Rukmani though the whole tree was given by him to sathyabhama according to her preference..
Sathyabhama realized that the parijatham flowers too preferred Rukmani because of her love for them and understood Krishna’s ways of teaching.
God loves bhakthas more than their loving him.
